Distance and direction from nearest town/city: Adjacent to northwest Logan

Directions to site from nearest town/city of at least moderate size: From St. Rt.33, exit at St. Rt. 664 (if going north, turn left onto 664, if going south, turn right on to 664). Go about 1/10 mile and turn right onto Lake Logan Road. Go about one mile to the lake.

Site Description

There are 720 acres, including the lake which is about 400 acres. There are no roads or trails.


Birds of Interest - Seasonal Specialties

Winter: Waterfowl until lake is completely frozen. Bald Eagles.

Spring: Waterfowl, gulls, terns, moorhens, shorebirds possible on swimming beach, Osprey and other usual spring migrants.

Summer: Hybrid mallards, Mallards, domestic ducks and geese, Canada Geese, Mute Swans.

Fall: Usual fall migrants in surrounding trees and fields and wooded areas, also migrating waterfowl.

The following specialty birds have also been seen at Lake Logan over a several year time span: Red-necked Grebe, Red-throated Loon, Eared Grebe, Willet, Whimbrel, White Pelican, Yellow-crowned Night-heron, Black Tern, Prothonotary Warbler, Northern Waterthrush, Yellow-throated Warbler, Purple Gallinule

Closed hours/season: Never closed.

Parking Areas: At boat launch, fishing pier and swimming beach.

Fees/Permits: Only for fishing.

Restroom Facilities: Available, but, not modern.

Special Notes: None.

Harmful insects, poisonous plants or animals: None.

Restaurants in the area: In nearby Logan one can find McDonald’s, Subway, Burger King, Wendy’s, Bob Evans and others.

Other Birding Opportunities in the Area

Hocking Hills State Park/Hocking State Forest including Old Man’s Cave, Conkles Hollow, Cantwell Cliffs, Cedar Falls, Ash Cave, etc. Also Clear Creek Metro Park is to the north.
