Eastern Kingbird with red crown displayed

Noticed a small bird attack an American Crow in a distant tree and took a few shots. Viewing the images on the back of the camera I discovered that it was an Eastern Kingbird and that the red crown, that I have never seen, was clearly displayed.

Great pics.  I have never seen the red on a kingbird either.

Re: Eastern Kingbird with red crown displayed

Allan,
Thanks for finding the red crown.  Only two of my many bird books mention the crown and only the National Geographic Song and Garden Birds of NA show a picture of one with the crown exposed.  Now I have reason to keep looking at that stately bird. Great find on your part.
