Thank you for your interest in the Ohio Breeding Bird Atlas II. Ohio's second breeding bird atlas is a state-wide cooperative effort that will rely upon the participation of bird enthusiasts to document the current distribution and abundance of breeding birds in Ohio. This project will provide an exciting way to learn more about the birds of Ohio, while contributing valuable information for the conservation of birds in the state. Ohio contains an amazing amount of avian diversity and a primary goal of this atlas is to document this diversity. Although the second atlas will be similar in many ways to Ohio's first atlas, there will be a number of exciting additions thanks to new technologies. There is plenty of opportunity for you to participate, whether you want to venture into more remote parts of the state, or simply survey birds in your own backyard!
Big County Competition
Register today to compete in the Big County Early-Season Atlasing Competition! Some species of birds begin breeding activities fairly early in the calendar year. As a result, much of the survey efforts invested in the Ohio Breeding Bird Atlas II could begin as early as January and continue through the spring before the bulk of survey activities characteristically commence in June. This competition will take place from February through April (2009). For more details on event registration, please contact the project coordinator at obba2@osu.edu
PLEASE NOTE: With the winter months upon us, please consider submitting all Atlas data that you may have. Please mail data or enter observation online by February 28, 2009.
