OBBA2 Priority Blocks Need Your Help!

Distribution of Priority Blocks
Ohio Priority Blocks
Peterjohn & Rice 1991

The purpose of these lists is to direct OBBA II volunteers to the more than 450 priority blocks that need survey coverage. The blocks in each of the three lists have been sorted by Block ID, County, and Amount of Survey Effort. Since the first Ohio Breeding Bird Atlas culminated in a large dataset on bird distribution, we are now in a position to assess changes in statewide distributions of breeding birds that have taken place over the last 20+ years. Because priority blocks received all survey effort in the mid-80s, we must ensure that they once again receive adequate coverage.

If you are interested in contributing to Ohio’s 2nd Atlas, please consider taking on survey responsibilities for one or more of these blocks. Also, think about tacking on a nearby non-priority block that is in need of coverage.

Please keep in mind that we need to continue to spread our survey effort into new areas of Ohio so that we can complete statewide coverage during this Atlas project. With our current roster of volunteers, we can accomplish this important task if each volunteer plans to survey 2 new blocks per year from 2008-2010.
