Welcome

Thank you for your interest in the Ohio Breeding Bird Atlas II. Nearly 1,000 birders in Ohio contributed more than 1 million breeding bird records from 2006-2011. These observations resulted in the documentation of more than 200 species, including 5 new breeding species for Ohio, 5 species not know to have bred in 50-100 years, and 17 not recorded as breeding in the first Atlas ~25 years ago. The results are presented in a beautifully illustrated book, The Second Atlas of Breeding Birds in Ohio, providing the most comprehensive account of Ohio breeding birds to date.  This information is valuable and necessary to more effectively conserve bird populations.

Species Sponsorship a huge success! Thanks to help from the Ohio Ornithological Society and generous birders, we have auctioned off the majority of our species through the sponsorship program. Nearly $14,000 in funds generated from the program will go towards lowering the cost of the book for the general public.
