Atlasing in August

First off, we’d like to thank everyone for their efforts throughout this last field season, and especially over the last weekend. We had more than 1,200 new records entered from data collected during this past BIG WEEKEND alone!

The good news is that over 73% of these records still would have been valid even if all bird species in the state were outside of safe dates! That means that atlasing in August, when many species are outside of safe dates, can still be very productive.

Even though the state is looking great over all, there are still gaps in our coverage in just about every region. We urge you to get out and atlas during these first weeks of August when fledged young, feeding adults and even singing birds are all around! We have included our latest coverage maps of the state to help you pick a block near you that needs help! (click the image to open a larger version in a web browser)

Our efforts through the end of this final season will have a large impact on the final Atlas publication, so don’t miss your last chances to contribute data to this historic project. Every record makes a difference!

Thank you so much for all you do for the OBBA II, and happy birding!
