May 23, 2012

Thank you for your efforts to enter final breeding bird records.  As May comes to a close we will begin analysis of more than 1 million bird records!  However, there are still important things you can do to help us transition to the final stage of OBBA II—this is necessary to allow us move forward.  Please complete the following as soon as possible:

  • If you have un-entered records, please call or email us. Data can be entered via website ( or mailed, but options will end very soon. Please make your observations count before it is too late! We can help make that
  • Fill out your field effort hours and other effort in your Atlas account
  • Submit any remaining Rare Species Documentation
  • Fill out our owling effort survey (

Over the past 6 years, many of you have commented that you have spent time owling in blocks, but did not detect any birds.  There is no way to capture this [unsuccessful] effort in your account on our website.  It is important that we collect this information so that we have an accurate measure of effort to make comparisons to the first Ohio Breeding Bird Atlas (1982-1987).  You can access the survey by clicking on the link above. Completion of the survey should take less than 5 minutes.

Thank you for your help in making this project a success.
